Quantifying and estimating the financial impact of climate change is an imperative for planning at all levels of asset management. Providing actionable guidance about the vulnerabilities and adaptation options to reduce the impact of climate change is the reason IPSS™ was created in 2011.

Designed by researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder, IPSS™ has evolved to a system enabling owners, operators and professionals to understand the complex impacts of climate change in a user-friendly manner.

Based on engineering materials data, existing case studies and other information, IPSS™ leverages stressor-response engineering data coupled with climate change data to estimate the potential impacts from specific climate stressors.

A full range of potential climate futures are analyses using all available AR5 climate change models from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Global data is available through 2100 and analyzed relative to historical weather patterns.


IPSS™ produces actionable guidance to plan for climate change. This includes three main areas: identifying vulnerabilities, planning specific adaptation investment options and managing risk. Using IPSS™
